Smart City Feeders Coach, Festus Odini has expressed disappointment that his boys could not win the 2023 Lagos FA Cup final following their 0-2 loss to Ikorodu City Sunday afternoon at the Onikan Stadium on Lagos Island.
Odini confessed that his boys played well but they were not lucky against their opponents in the final of Lagos FA Cup watched by thousands of football fans.
“Today is not our day.My players gave their best unfortunately our opponents took their chances which earned them the deserved win.I congratulate them for a job well done,”he said.
Smart City own goal early in the first half and Ade Cole second goal in the second half was all Ikorodu team needed to win this year’s Lagos FA Cup.
The closing ceremony was witnessed by Lagos State Football Association board members led by Seyi Akinwunmi and some football stakeholders within and outside the state in attendance.
It was a colourful and exciting final as both teams came with the large number of their fans.
Both teams played purposeful football but Ikorodu City were technically better and deserved to be crowned as the champions.
Reacting to the victory, Ikorodu United coach, Sodiq Dabiri stated that the victory was well deserved and commended his players for a job well done.
Meanwhile in the female final, FC Robo Queens defeated Dannaz Ladies 3-0 to retain the trophy.
